Bears on property 5
Bears on property 3
Bears live throughout the area, but it is quite rare to see them up close. By close, I mean several hundred feet away. When I saw three America Black Bears pacing in front the fence out back, I quickly got my camera to take these pictures. No sooner had I actually taken the pictures, the bears became aware of my presence and they ran away. The chickens inside the fenced in area where the bears were pacing were very quiet and huddled together in a far corner. I don't think they knew what to think of these large furry farm visitors!
The local animal control person told me that it had been about 18 years since bears were sighted in or near a populated area of town.
